Adobe Renews Long Standing License for Franklin’s Spelling, Hyphenation, and Thesaurus Technology

BURLINGTON, New Jersey –  August 6, 2008Franklin Electronic Publishers, Inc. (AMEX:FEP), through its Proximity Technology Division, today announced that Adobe Systems, Inc., the leading provider of graphic design and publishing software worldwide, has extended the term of its long standing license for four years beginning October 1, 2008 for Proximity’s spelling error detection and correction, hyphenation, and thesaurus software .

Through its Proximity Technology Division, Franklin designs and licenses to third parties easy to implement, modular software solutions that run in all architectures to provide spelling error detection and correction, hyphenation, dictionary and thesaurus functionality, in addition to recently implemented word translation assistance across a range of languages.   Proximity technology was selected for the products of Adobe as far back as 1988 and these and other Adobe products have used Proximity technology continuously for the past twenty years.

“Adobe Systems has once again recognized the power and the value of our linguistic solutions,” said Barry Lipsky, President and CEO. “With this latest renewal we approach a quarter of a century of providing the best in class spell correction, hyphenation and thesaurus function to the preeminent leader in design, multimedia and desktop publishing applications.  Adobe’s selection of our Proximity linguistic solutions once again underscores that we are really the only choice for serious application software providers and web services companies that wish to make their products available on a truly global basis.”

Franklin will recognize revenues of approximately $6.9 million over the newly extended four year term of the license beginning in its quarter ending December 31, 2008.
